Woodbury
Merle has been unceremoniously ousted from the second in command role. He has been replaced with the Governor's lover, Jennifer Cooper, five months pregnant with his child. Fearing that Cooper won't be able to fulfill her duties once the baby is born, the Governor is looking to a new second in command, the former FBI agent, Rudolf Temple. Meanwhile, Temple's partner, Alana Liu is attempting to find a cure for the disease which is afflicting them all. If she fails, who knows what the Governor will do. To add complexity to the situation, Martinez has not been subtle about his attraction to Cooper, though she's spurned him so far in favor of the Governor. Further, Cooper and a friend of hers discovered eight kids(including Lizzie and Mika), held by a pedophile. They killed the man and took all the children back to Woodbury where most of them have been adopted by families. In an attempt to get back into the Governor's good graces, Merle has taken a young couple hostage and taken them back to Woodbury. The Governor mistakenly believes that Maggie and Glenn are affiliated with a spy who'd been placed in Woodbury and who was removed by force fairly recently.
The Prison
Maggie and Glenn have disappeared, gone after a grocery run. No one knows where they've gone. Carl and a girl of nine, Ariadne, have left the prison to go search for them. Fearing for their safety, Daryl has gone after the kids. Rick still has yet to come out of his depression after Lori's death and so the others are left to shift for themselves. Hershel and a few others have begun growing crops and trying to make a reasonable life within the prison walls. Little do they know that Woodbury knows of their existence and will be coming.
Emory University
Once the site of the CDC, Emory University now maintains a small colony of survivors, mostly former students. They're a peaceful group, led by Grace Sutton, a former medical student. Generally, they prefer to hide than make themselves known to strangers. They achieve this by using tunnels under the campus to move safely from building to building. A casual observer of the campus might notice that their main building, the Goizueta Business School has been barricaded with old trucks and cars upended, leaving no visible egress into or out of the building, but there are few signs of recent life most of the time. When strangers approach, the colonists generally choose to watch unseen from above, only approaching if they feel that the stranger is a hazard, either to them or to themselves.
West Point
A group of people led by a man with unassuming appearances, Jacob Ripley, have taken over a resort on West Point Lake and named it after the lake. The citizens of West Point hung the undead from the trees, creating a ‘dead forest’ to deter guests and mask the smell of the living. At any given time West Point soldiers are stationed around the area, disguised as travellers with no home, and they don’t hesitate to shoot first and ask questions later if they think someone is too hostile.
